NEW KEYS SEASON 11

On October 8th New Keys will present their Season 11 concert of all minimalist works in honor of minimalist pioneer Terry Riley's 80th Birthday (which was June 24th...).  I'll be playing one of Riley's own four-hand pieces Cinco de Mayo with my duo partner Sarah Cahill to open the concert.  Then the fab Kate Campbell and I will play 10 of the recently published Etudes by Philip Glass.  Then the New Keys ensemble comes together to premiere a commissioned work for 2 pianos, 8 hands titled all night, all day by Ruby Fulton.  This gorgeous and deep piece was inspired by Ruby's interest in Riley's early tape delay pieces and her experience of the Baltimore Uprising last Spring.  Being a Baltimore resident she participated in the protests where the chant "all night, all day, we will fight for Freddie Gray!" rang throughout the city.  This minimalist influence coupled with borrowed harmonies from Americana tunes and the rhythm of the chant make for a quintessential Fulton piece of art: awesome.

Season 11: minima11ism will take place on Thursday October 8 at the Center for New Music (55 Taylor Street, SF) and begins at 8:00pm.  Tickets are available at the door ($15/10 for C4NM members).
